Ute Meadows Architect Project

We will be doing this project only for a few days. All work will be done in class.

Objectives: By the end of the project, you will...

  • Find the perimeter/circumference of a square, rectangle, rhombus, parallelogram, triangle, and circle.
  • Find the area of a square, rectangle, rhombus, parallelogram, triangle, and circle.\
  • Use formulas to calculate area and perimeter/circumference
  • Use problem-solving strategies in mathematical situations
  • Utilize technology to communicate and illustrate ideas

Task: With your group, you will...
  • Use the scale model of Ute Meadows to find its actual area and perimeter (using units)
  • Create a design for a new Ute Meadows with:
    • The same area but a different perimeter and...
    • The same perimeter but a different area
  • Be sure you show evidence (either on paper or the computer) of how you found the areas and perimeters/circumferences of shapes in your new designs.
  • Use Gliffy, Google Sketchup, or a comparable tool to create a scaled blueprint of what your new Ute Meadows would look like. (Be sure it's practical!)
  • Create a presentation to "pitch" your new Ute Meadows designs for me, so I "hire" you as my architect.

(Hint: Divide up the work evenly, so each person in your group is held accountable for his/her job and the work gets done on time.)

Math Reflection Voki (Coming Soon!)- Click on the link and listen to my question. Then, use your own Voki to answer. Be sure you include an example to show me!

  • Click on "Get a Voki now"
  • Click "Create"
  • Have fun creating your own Voki.
  • Click on "Give it a voice" and use text, a microphone on your computer, your telephone to record, or type a message. Be sure you read your answer from your reflections sheet to be sure it's complete and sounds right.
  • Click on "publish" when you've recorded your voice and saved it.
  • Copy the html code by right-clicking and hitting "copy."
  • Click "edit" on our Math wiki page.
  • Move your cursor under my voki and click on the little t.v. on the "Editor" bar.
  • Click on "Other html" on the left.
  • Paste in your html code.
  • Your "widget" should appear on the page.

New School Project
I couldn't post this on the the disscusion page. This is for the Tie-Di Bricks inc. I have found a way to post our idea so we can all discuss it and examine it. I didn't add our fence but Bethany's idea should defiently get us a good grade. I'll discuss more on this subject on our discussion page. I'm guessing others are going to use it so I'll make a perosnal Tie-Di Bricks Inc. discussion page. If you have trouble opening the link wikis-email me.
